Welcome to the January issue of EVISA's Speciation Newsletter !
Speciation analysis as any chemical analysis calls for quality control in order to warrant accurate results. Certified Reference Materials (CRM) are cornerstones for quality control used for calibration, recovery tests and method validation. The National Research Council of Canada now has released a new CRM supporting the analysis of food supplements. Apart from minerals and trace elements, the materials are also certified
for some trace element species (Chromium picolinate, cyanocobalamanin)
and many vitamins (see the news below).
Speciation analysis in general is a complex analysis calling for dedicated sample preparation that often excludes simultaneous multielement analysis. A group of researchers from the University of Graz now presents a method for the simultaneous analysis of sulphur and selenium species in mushrooms cultured under enhanced selenium supply. The researchers investigated in which part of the organism most selenium can be found and what are the predominant species. In order to measure these species accurately a triple quad ICP-MS was used that could overcome spectral interferences by using the oxygen reaction mode (see the news below).
The ANAKON 2019 in Münster is the most important German speaking conference on analytical chemistry. There is still time to submit an abstract for a late poster presentation (until February 8, 2019).
