CBI: Germany legislation: Organo tin compounds in clothing articles (additional requirements)
In Germany the initiative has been taken several years ago to develop legislation prohibiting tri-organo tin compounds in products, including clothing. A draft text was prepared, after which Germany notified the European Commission of its intentions.
The commission decided however that Germany was not allowed to lay down this legislation, as the preconditions for stricter legislation were not met in this case. This means that in Germany, currently there is no legislation restricting the presence of organo tin compounds in clothing. However, it might be advisable not to use such compounds, considering the “General product safety” principle.
