Research is focused on the development and application of analytical and chemical methods for studying fundamental processes of transformation of metals in biological systems. Current research activities include:
  • Development of molecular mass spectrometric techniques for the determination of organic compounds of metals and metalloids
  • Human metabolism of arsenic species present in water and food
  • Investigations into lipid-soluble arsenic compounds in organisms, and their occurrence and significance in human foods
  • Examination of selenium containing metabolites in human urine
  • Synthesis of naturally-occurring organoselenium and organoarsenic compounds, and studies on their human toxicological significance
  • Analysis of the Cd-binding metalloproteins in natural populations of crustaceans, and investigation of their use as biomarkers of metal stress.
