2023/10
Welcome to the October issue of EVISA's Speciation Newsletter !

The European Virtual Institute for Speciation Analysis (EVISA) is servicing the community now for more than 20 years. EVISA has been established during a EU funded project, with project partners both from academia and industry with the common aim to promote speciation analysis. Well known scientists working in the area of speciation analysis were part of this project, some of which are retired meanwhile:

Prof. Carmen Camara (University of Madrid)
Dr. Olivier Donard (University of Pau)
Prof. Peter Fodor (Corvinius University of Budapest)
Prof. Wolfgang Frech (Umea University)
Prof. Erik Larsen (Danish Institute of Food and Veterinary Research)

Some founding member institutions are no longer on board, for others the younger generation has taken over. One of the project partner and Executive board member, well known scientist in the area of speciation analysis, Olivier Donard has now been elected into the French Academy of Scientists (see the news below). We are congratulating Olivier for this achievement and his new role as academician, namely encouraging the scientific life, promoting the teaching of science, transmitting knowledge between scientific communities, fostering international collaborations, and ensuring a dual role of expertise and advise. That is exactly, what Olivier Donard has done already for decades.

One of the main aim of EVISA is to provide the know-how for high-quality speciation analysis. To achieve accuracy even for complex sample materials is quite challenging and calls for validated methods and other means of quality management.  Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) are an important tool for achieving accuracy. A consortium of international researchers has conducted an inter-laboratory comparative study with a primary focus on accurately quantifying highly toxic arsenic species present in seven distinct biological materials. The outcomes of this endeavor have yielded a high degree of concordance among the submitted results, thereby facilitating the certification of the materials under investigation (see the news below). We encourage the analytical community working in the area of arsenic speciation analysis to make use of these new CRMs.

DIRECTORY

EVISA's directory of scientist is a versatile tool to facilitate contact with scientists in the field of speciation and related sciences. The directory is fully searchable for names, addresses, research topics etc.  You should bookmark this directory as an always up-to-date address book. (In order to hinder SPAM robots for collecting the E-mail accounts, we hide them in a special format).

More than 290 active scientists in the field of speciation analysis already joined the directory. Join this great directory that is extensively linked to all type of other information on this site, such as homepages, conferences and literature.

If your entry is still missing in this directory, please contact us at info@speciation.net.

LINKS

EVISA provides an easy access to external information. Our database contains more than 2800 links to relevant information from numerous top scientific resources spread over the whole Web. The database is searchable both via full-text and categories such as elements, type of species and type of information. We are permanently updating our links section.

If your web site is missing here, please e-mail your link information to info@speciation.net.
