2024/08
Welcome to the August issue of EVISA's Speciation Newsletter !

Despite being in the holiday season, the EVISA web portal continues to attract more than 10,000 users per day. We are thrilled by the loyalty of our user community, who have been visiting our portal regularly for over 20 years. However, we have rarely seen such high traffic during this time of year. We hope this reflects the quality of the information EVISA provides.

EVISA is committed to offering accurate and reliable information about trace elements and their species, ensuring that it is easily accessible. The topics featured on our web portal are carefully selected based on their societal relevance, the level of scientific advancement, and the quality of the research presented. A key criterion for inclusion is the publication of research in a peer-reviewed journal. Our journal database lists those journals that have implemented a rigorous peer-review process, and our news section exclusively discusses papers from these journals.

While peer review cannot entirely eliminate instances of fraud or the publication of low-quality papers—and admittedly has several shortcomings (see the news below)—it remains a favored method despite criticism (see the news below). It has proven its worth by demonstrating that, in most cases, it can significantly enhance the quality of publications.

Ultimately, the quality of the peer review process hinges on the professionalism of the reviewers. We hope that the research discussions featured on the EVISA web portal contribute to the fair evaluation of published studies.

For your participation on this discussion, you may use the "Comments" function at the end of each News.

Peer reviewing as a quality check - Criticism
Peer review is a process of quality check subjecting an author’s scholarly work, research or ideas to the scrutiny of others who are experts in the same field. It is a well-established process which has been a formal part of scientific communication for over 300 years. Despite its broad implementation, there is also a continuous discussion about its effectiveness.

Peer reviewing as a quality check - Expectations
EVISA's web portal is meant to provide reliable information in the realm of trace element and speciation analysis. In order to provide high quality information in the EVISA News section only peer-reviewed publications from reputable journals are discussed.

DIRECTORY

EVISA's directory of scientist is a versatile tool to facilitate contact with scientists in the field of speciation and related sciences. The directory is fully searchable for names, addresses, research topics etc.  You should bookmark this directory as an always up-to-date address book. (In order to hinder SPAM robots for collecting the E-mail accounts, we hide them in a special format).

More than 300 active scientists in the field of speciation analysis already joined the directory. Join this great directory that is extensively linked to all type of other information on this site, such as homepages, conferences and literature.

If your entry is still missing in this directory, please contact us at info@speciation.net.
