Dear Reader !

Welcome to the November edition of the Speciation Newsletter provided by the European Virtual Institute for Speciation Analysis (EVISA).

"Europe is leading the gang" with respect to speciation analysis. This can be seen from the overwhelming activity of European research laboratories that is reflected in the number of publications and conference contributions. This is also reflected in the number of Certified Reference Materials (CRM) certified for elemental species issued in Europe (by BCR/IRMM).  Up to now, there are only few CRM's  certified for elemental species from the US (mainly on methylmercury) but NIST/EPA now has embarked to change this situation (see our News section). Answering to pressing demands, the target element chosen is Chromium in soil/waste, for which actually there is very little available up to now. However, interestingly, a very similar material is currently under evaluation in Europe (prEN 15192- CEN/TC 292).

We hope that our newsletter will attract your interest, and would be happy to receive your suggestions, comments or criticism.
