NIST/EPA/NJ DEP embark on the preparation of a soil reference materials for chromium speciation analysis
(15.11.2005)
The United States Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are partnering with the State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection to develop speciated reference materials for chromium.
The origin of the material
A mixture of native soil and waste material from Hudson County, New Jersey will be blended, homogenized and aliquots distributed for analysis to interested academic and government research laboratories worldwide who wish to volunteer to participate in this study.
Call for help
Analyses for total and speciated chromium are to be performed by the laboratory's method of choice in triplicate for each of 3 sample aliquots and a control material, which will be forwarded early in 2006. Results will be due 3 months from date of sample receipt. A data reporting template will be provided.
Certification
Data evaluation will be performed by NIST and will result in a reference material with values for total and speciated Chromium including measurement uncertainty.
