JRC-IRMM has released ERM-BC211 certified rice reference material for arsenic speciation analysis

Background:
Rice is staple food in many countries in Europe and throughout the world. Arsenic and arsenic species can be of concern for human health if present at elevated levels. Especially inorganic arsenic is considered to be carcinogenic.

The new material ERM-BC211:
This certified reference material may assist food control laboratories to develop reliable testing methods for arsenic speciation and to control the quality of measurements for food safety.

This material is primarily intended to assess the performance of analytical methods for the analysis of arsenic and arsenic species in rice and for validation purposes (e.g. trueness estimation). The material has been processed and certified in accordance to ISO Guides 34 and 35. Details about material sampling, processing and certification are described in detail in the certification report (see below).
