Welcome to the November issue of EVISA's Speciation Newsletter !
This month, we continue our series on brief summaries related to techniques for speciation analysis, focusing on the hyphenation of liquid chromatography with inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (LC-ICP-OES). While LC-ICP-OES shares some features with its more well-known counterpart, LC-ICP-MS, it also has distinct advantages and limitations. Although early reports on LC-ICP-OES date back to the late 1970sabout six years before LC-ICP-MS was introducedthe number of publications on LC-ICP-OES is approximately ten times fewer than those on LC-ICP-MS (see the news below).
Despite this, LC-ICP-OES has unique features that make it suitable for specific applications. For example, it excels in the speciation analysis of non-metals. Recently, a team of German researchers developed an innovative method using IC-ICP-OES for the quantification of inositol phosphates. This method successfully separated 28 isomers within 33 minutes, demonstrating good precision and detection limits (see the news below).
In other news, EVISA has reported for 20 years on the rising mercury levels in fish, particularly tuna. Previously, it was believed that canned tuna was less contaminated because it uses smaller, younger fish that have not bioaccumulated mercury over a long period. However, a new study by the NGO BLOOM has debunked this belief, showing that canned tuna is even more polluted than fresh tuna (see the news below).
Lastly, the 20th European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry, a significant event for discussing trace element determination and speciation analysis, will take place in March next year in Berlin. There is still time to submit poster contributions for this important conference.

DIRECTORY
|
|
|
EVISA's directory of scientist is a versatile tool to facilitate contact with scientists in the field of speciation and related sciences. The directory is fully searchable for names, addresses, research topics etc. You should bookmark this directory as an always up-to-date address book. (In order to hinder SPAM robots for collecting the E-mail accounts, we hide them in a special format).
More than 300 active scientists in the field of speciation analysis already joined the directory. Join this great directory that is extensively linked to all type of other information on this site, such as homepages, conferences and literature.
If your entry is still missing in this directory, please contact us at info@speciation.net.
