The Serbian Chemical Society, one of the oldest scientific societies in Europe and the tenth oldest chemical society in the world, was founded in Belgrade in November, 1897. The Serbian Chemical Society has a rich history. Although interrupted by frequent wars and occupations, the Society has achieved important results. It publishes:
The Journal of the Serbian Chemical Society (12 issues of the 69th volume in 2004),
The Hemijakipregled (Chemical Review) in Serbian (46th volume in 6 issues), as well as
The News from the Serbian Chemical Society in Serbian, now part of the Chemical Review.
It has organized:
over 80 international and national scientific meetings,
43 meetings of the Serbian Chemical Society,
over 25 summer school and seminars,
countless lectures of eminent scientists, of which nine were Nobel prize winners.
Today the Society has 700 members, 19 sections, 18 affiliates and a rich library. It is involved in promoting education, giving awards for scientific and professional achievements, as well as to the best students. Serbian Chemical Society co-operating with the number of the chemical organisations in the world.
