BCR-596 - Aquatic Plant (trapa natans)

About 1000  kg of fresh Trapa natans were collected at Fondotoce,  Lake Maggiare  (Italy) and,  after careful washing with Iake water,  the  sample was air-dried at   ambient temperature, and  further dried  at  105°C.  The  dried  material  was  crushed  and  woody parts were eliminated by  hand-picking.  The  remaining   material  was passed  through a Retsch hammer  mill,   equipped  with tungsten  carbide tools and a 2  mm sieve. The obtained powder  was passed over a  125 µm sieve  and  the fraction > 125 µm was discarded.   The fraction  (125   µm  was  collected  in  a specially designed  drum and homogenized  for 2 weeks.   At the end  of the homogenization  period,  10 subsamples  were taken  at  different  positions  inside  the  drum  for  bulk  homogeneity   testing.  Each  bottle contain  approximately  40 g.
