The new laser system DL iScan from TOPTICA Photonics comprises a tunable diode laser with integrated mode monitor and active wavelength control. The DL iScan is based on a patented interferometer design and enables fast and precise frequency tuning of TOPTICA's external-cavity diode laser DL 100. The laser frequency can be scanned in any desired manner, including purely linear and step-wise frequency variations. In addition, the laser can be stabilized to any desired frequency, including 'off-resonant' values where no atomic or other reference is available. The interferometer and the diode laser are both integrated in a compact housing (228 x 80 x 80 mm). The control electronics feature an integrated 32-bit microprocessor. A software package enables direct control of the laser frequency via a standard PC. The attainable frequency stability of the DL iScan laser system is better than 1 MHz over 2 minutes and better than 50 MHz over 10 hours. Moreover, the high regulation bandwidth (> 100 kHz) greatly reduces the sensitivity of the diode laser to mechanical vibrations. The DL iScan is thus a unique tool for a wide range of applications, including wavelength monitoring and scan linearization, ageing control of laser diodes, phase-shifting interferometry, laser cooling, and LIDAR seeding.
