The Process Analytics Direct-Light ™ System is used where ambient lighting cannot be controlled, as above moving conveyors, webs or sheets. It is also used wherever sample height, texture and distance from the interface will vary.
The Direct-Light ™ instrument is a post-dispersive design with a bright light source and shutter mounted inside the sample inter-face. A collection fiber bundle passes reflected NIR energy to the detector inside the instrument enclosure.
The Direct Light System utilizes a non-contact measurement method, which provides for an accurate, on-line chemical analysis of solid organic products through the use of near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. It is a rapid and clean method of analysis that meets the needs of today’s manufacturers for real-time QC and process control data. The measurement systems can be used wherever a product is in motion and accessible—on a conveyor belt, or inside a hopper for instance. Accurate results can be obtained at distances from a millimeter to 30cm.
Non-contact measurement is always performed in reflectance mode. Reflectance is well suited to measuring the surface composition of solids and web characteristics such as coating thickness and degree of cure. Non-contact measurement is used extensively for the quality control of fibers, sheets, solid laminates and many web products such as plastics, papers and textiles.
