A.S.P.E.N. is a professional organization whose members are involved in the provision of clinical nutrition therapies, including parenteral and enteral nutrition. Its nearly 6,000 members are physicians, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, scientists and other allied health professionals.
A.S.P.E.N.'s strategic plan, the Itinerary for Tomorrow, outlines the direction the Society is taking to assure that every patient receives optimal nutrition care.
Central to A.S.P.E.N.'s continued effectiveness is the exchange of expert clinical nutrition information and knowledge to all those delivering and receiving nutrition care.
A.S.P.E.N. prepares standards and guidelines for the use of nutrition support and professional practice. Certification in nutrition support is available through the National Board for Nutrition Support Certification Inc. (NBNSC), an independent credentialing corporation.
A.S.P.E.N. works closely with other nutrition and health care organizations to advance a patient-centered approach to nutrition care. A.S.P.E.N. also communicates with government agencies and insurance providers about the optimal use of nutrition therapies.
