THE OBJECTS OF THE ASSOCIATION
To advance the study and practice of clinical biochemistry.
1. To disseminate knowledge of the principles and practice of clinical biochemistry. 2. To protect and promote the interests of clinical biochemists. 3. To do all such things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the foregoing objects.
The primary aim of the Association from its foundation has been to advance the practice of clinical biochemistry. This aim still underlies all our activities, which have been greatly expanded over the last thirty years by the incorporation of the Association, the expansion of its work to include professional as well as scientific activities and the provision of professional diplomas, available to clinical biochemists after appropriate examination.
The membership of the Association (approximately 1,300) consists predominantly of individuals working in Clinical Biochemistry departments of hospitals, private laboratories and university departments. It also includes members working in related medical sciences such as Endocrinology, Immunology, Haematology and Physiology.
The Australasian Association of Clinical Biochemists was founded in 1961, evolving from a "Study Group in Clinical Chemistry".
