Bartels Mikrotechnik – the Advantages of Microtechnology
Ever since it was founded in 1996, Bartels Mikrotechnik GmbH has had a clear philosophy: to transfer the innovative power of microfluidics into industry. This is because the high-precision handling of minute quantities of liquid or gas in the smallest possible space enables microfluidics to offer the promise of considerable innovation potential in product and production systems – and demands just as much know-how.
As a result, this Dortmund company started at an early stage to regard itself as a hi-tech partner to its industrial customers. Initially it was severely restricted to the burgeoning bio-genetic industry, but now Bartels operates far beyond these barriers, reaching far into medical and pharmaceutical technology, in mechanical engineering, and the conventional consumer goods industry: very successfully, it should be added.
Industrial customers all over the world, even those with no microtechnological know-how of their own, now also make use of the key MST technology as a competitive advantage in their markets. Like Bartels, they believe in the crucial advantage conferred by microtechnology. This Dortmund company already has 30 highly qualified employees, who offer in three main divisions mainly plastic-based MEMS services and products for industry.
1. MEMS Solutions House
As a medium-sized industrial service provider for microfludic product development and manufacturing Bartels Mikrotechnik acts as a high technology partner and intermediary between MEMS-technology and industry. Depending on the customer’s needs, the company realizes in cooperation with its clients product innovations that are directly aiming at the mass markets. For this, Bartels Mikrotechnik uses next to its own expertise an expanding worldwide MEMS-network and strategic partnerships like e.g. with Fennel CosMed in mass production.
2. Excimerlaser Jobshop
The high-precision excimerlaser production of microstructures and components specified by the customer was once the germinating cell of Bartels Mikrotechnik GmbH. The excimerlaser systems are still unique within Europe and are being successfully used for "rapid prototyping".
3. Microfluidic Products
Plastic micropumps or microvalves produced in series sold as (bought-in) products provide customers with the possibility of quickly and easily integrating microfluidic systems into their own products or systems in a cost-efficient manner. Bartels is therefore working very hard on constantly widening its range.
