Biochrom Ltd was founded in 1970 as Biocal to sell and eventually manufacture amino acid analysers at St Albans in the UK.
LKB acquired the company in 1972 (Biochrom was then called LKB Biochrom Ltd) and in 1974 moved to become the second company to take up residence on the now world renowned Cambridge Science Park in Cambridge.
Biochrom then became part of the Pharmacia group through their purchase of LKB (Biochrom was then called Pharmacia LKB Biochrom Ltd, later this was changed to Pharmacia Biotech (Biochrom) Ltd).
In 1982 to complement the amino acid product line the Company introduced the now famous Ultrospec range of spectrophotometers, over the years this product range has seen the addition of many new and exciting products.
In 1999 the assets of Pharmacia Biotech (Biochrom) Ltd were acquired by Harvard Apparatus Inc from Pharmacia & Upjohn and the company name changed to Biochrom Ltd. On the 12th May 2000, Biochrom Ltd. officially acquired the German Amino Acid Analyser manufacturer Biotronik from Eppendorf – Netheler – Hinz GmbH.
We currently employ sixty people engaged in marketing, development, technology, manufacturing and administration.
Our products are sold world wide through our distribution partners.
