The FDI is a federation of National Dental Associations. Its main
roles are:
- To bring together the world of dentistry
- To represent the dental profession of the world
- To stimulate and facilitate the exchange of information across all borders with the aim of optimal oral health for all people
The organisation was founded in Paris in 1900 as the Fédération Dentaire Internationale. It has continued to be the main organisation representing dentists worldwide and ever since it was formed has organised a yearly global meeting to bring dentists together and discuss relevant issues.
