In September 1992, МАIК Nauka/Interperiodica was established by the Russian Academy of Sciences
and Pleiades Publishing, Inc.
Pleiades Publishing, Inc. is an American company
that has been working in the Russian market since 1991 and is a
со-founder of the following Russian publishing houses:
- МАIК Nauka/Interperiodica,
- Akademkniga,
- Akademkniga/Uchebnik,
- Gardariki,
- Zoomedlit,
- KolosS,
- Fizmatlit,
- Flinta,
- Economist,
- Yurist,
- Medkniga,
- as well as the trade association Academica.
This
group of companies annually produce about 1000 books and textbooks on
natural sciences, engineering, humanities, politics, agriculture,
mechanical engineering, transport, medicine, and other fields. Their
combined productions are distributed not only domestically, but
worldwide.
The publishing
activity of these entities comprises periodicals and books. The
periodicals are published by Pleiades Publishing, Inc. and МАIК
Nauka/Interperiodica, which is the key company of the aforementioned
group.
МАIК
Nauka/Interperiodica provides the world scientific community with
access to the results of Russia\'s domestic scientific research in the
form of more than 100 titles of English-language journals on such areas
as physics, mathematics, computer science, chemistry, biology, and
earth sciences. Many of the authors of the articles published are
renown scientists in Russia and abroad.
Springer Science+Business Media,
a partner of Pleiades Publishing, Inc., distributes the journals.The
agreement signed by these companies in 2005 assumes the joint promotion
of journals on the world market and an increase in the scientific
information load of 30% over the course of six years. Considerable
attention is given to distribution of journals in electronic format and
to access of the largest library consortia worldwide.
At the end of 2005, the group of companies announced their decision to create a general system for allowing access to the consolidated scientific information space.
It is our vision that the electronic libraries of leading Russian
universities will become a part of this system. A preliminary agreement
has already been achieved with Moscow State University.
