October 8, 1999 In a move to broaden its presence in the spectroscopy market, scientific and industrial laser manufacturer New Wave Research (Fremont, CA) has acquired Merchantek (Bozeman, MT); financial terms were undisclosed. Previously an original equipment manufacturer partnering with New Wave, Merchantek supplies systems for the laser ablation and mass spectroscopy market, specifically with the LUV Series Laser Ablation Systems. New Wave head Ed North expects the acquisition to afford his company a solid foothold in the laser ablation market. While the New Wave Research and Merchantek brand names and product lines will remain intact, manufacturing and business functions will center in New Wave's new Fremont facility. Merchantek's offices in Bozeman, MT will serve as an engineering center for both companies and a manufacturing location for special product configurations.
