Gas and water companies have banded together with experts from the economy, science and the Swiss administration to form the national trade organisation SVGW or SSIG. The SVGW consistently strives to achieve a safe, irreproachable and economical natural gas and drinking water supply.
The SVGW is the trade organisation of the gas and water companies. It has a staff of approximately 40. Safety, technology, hygiene and water and environmental protection are among the main topics on which it focuses. Additional topics such as public relations, vocational training and information are also covered. Over 500 utility companies, more than 400 planners, engineering companies, manufacturers, commercial outlets as well as the authorities belong to the SVGW.
The SVGW has three offices. Dr. Anton Kilchmann is responsible for the overall management of the head office in Zurich and the branches in Schwerzenbach and Lausanne.
There are four main areas, each with its own leader:
- Gas supply
- Water supply
- Testing and certification
- Publishing/Editing
The secretariat of the Swiss Gas Industry (FOGA) research, promotion and development fund is a unit directly subordinate to the management.
