On-Site Analysis of VOCs in Air SCENTOGRAPH CMS100 is a totally portable gas chromatograph (GC) designed to provide on-site field analysis with laboratory GC quality. Volatile organic compounds in air can be rapidly analyzed with high quality results. Sampling is achieved either automatically through an internal pump or manually through injection into a heated injection port. Efficient compound separation is accomplished with the use of a variety of commercially available columns. Columns can be heated isothermally or ramped to temperatures up to 180° C to create optimum conditions for maximum results.
Four detector options are available for tailoring the most effective system for each application, general or specific. Detection limits can range from ppt to percent levels. Internal battery and gas supply make the units totally portable. However, AC adaptors are available for prolonged use.
A detachable laptop PC, with user-friendly software, controls the system operation, conducts the sample analysis, and stores the results on an internal disk for future recall and documentation. While this system was designed to provide chemists with sophisticated tools for complex on-site analysis, inexperienced personnel can easily operate it.
This, combined with a corporate emphasis on quality and workmanship, makes SCENTOGRAPH the only choice in portable GCs.
Scentograph CMS100 Accessories:
- Automatic Purge and Trap – Units enable the user to analyze water and soil samples for VOCs on-site. GC batteries provide the power.
- Stack Gas Monitor – Designed to draw a sample of gas from a stack to the GC.
- Heated Injection Port – Syringe injection of gas or liquid can be accommodated with this option.
- Remote Operation – Real-time remote operation can be accomplished via the addition of an optional modem and remote operating software.
- Continuous Monitoring – The system can be set up to monitor continuously and unattended.
Four Detectors Available for Maximum Versatility:
- Micro Argon Ionization Detector – provides sensitive detection of organic compounds having an ionization potential of 11.7 eV or below. These compounds include halomethanes and haloethanes, which are poorly detected by other common field detectors. This detector is capable of detecting these compounds, as well as other hydrocarbons down to below ppb levels.
- Electron Capture Detector – a selective detector used for the detection of halogenated hydrocarbons, PCB’s, pesticides, and nitro-based compounds. Its sensitivity can reach low ppt levels.
- Thermal Conductivity Detector – used primarily for the detection of natural gases in concentrations ranging from 100 ppm to percent levels.
- Photoionization Detector – uses an ultraviolet lamp to ionize and detect hydrocarbons having ionization potentials of 10.6 eV or less with sensitivity approaching the 1 ppb level.
Applications:
- Site Characterization
- Fugitive Emission Detection
- Underground Storage Tank Screening
- Continuous Air Monitoring
- Fence Line Monitoring
