Spectrometer ( Molec. ): NIR |
The multiplexed near-infrared (NIR) spectrometer KUSTA 4004M is a process measuring instrument for the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of products in industrial manufacturing processes as well as the identification of products in sorting processes. The spectrograph of the KUSTA 4004 instrument series has been augmented with a fiber-optic multiplexer, so that up to 64 probes can be connected. The probes can be positioned in a process in a large variety of ways individually or in groups. For the inspection and evaluation of product flows on conveyor belts or chutes the probes are combined into a probe line, whereby material flow widths up to 2400 mm and conveying speeds up to 3 m/s are supported, using an appropriate measuring technique.
An example application is demonstrated by the identification and sorting of plastics on fast moving conveyor belts. The probe line is arranged above the conveyor belt, whereby the material stream on the belt is measured in 64 tracks. The light radiated from the lamps is back scattered by the plastics parts and collected by the probes, at a scanning rate of up to 50 Hz and a conveyor belt speed of up to 3m/s. The light collected by the probes is spectrally analyzed in the spectrograph and the significant NIR spectra for the plastics are produced. The measurement results are used by the system to determine the position of the plastic parts on the conveyor belt as well as for their identification. Mechanical and pneumatic actuators in the sorting system are controlled based on this information, which sort out the plastic parts according to freely selectable criteria.
Applications
- Identification and sorting of plastics
- Analytical evaluation of plastic additives, in particular flame retardants
- Identification and sorting of recovered paper
- Quality assurance in the process of paper manufacture
- Analytical evaluation of raw cotton
- Control of the UV curing of lacquers
- Analytical evaluation of polymers in manufacturing processes
Probes The probes are connected to the NIR-spectrometer KUSTA 4004M with a flexible cable. A wide range of probes have been developed for the greatest possible use of the instrument in automatic manufacturing processes.
