Sample introduction: Laser ablation |
The LSX-3000 is the world's first (and only) all solid state laser ablation system that delivers 193, 213 and 266 nm wavelengths all from the same Nd:YAG laser. Unlike excimer laser systems that deliver the 193 nm wavelength, the LSX-3000 does not use toxic gases to produce the laser energy. Combined with the powerful 193 nm for microanalysis of the most difficult materials, the LSX-3000 can also deliver high-energy 266 and 213 nm output to the sample all from a single compact platform. Performance The LSX-3000 delivers the 193 nm wavelength with enough irradiance to ablate all materials. The system delivers fractionation free analyses of materials such as the NIST 612 glass (see figure at left.) The system delivers improved performance on all materials, for instance, glass, ceramics, steels, and all geological materials. The short pulse width of the system is superior to traditional excimer systems, producing less melting of samples such as low temperature alloys.
Multiple Wavelength Capability The LSX-3000 is the only system to deliver all three wavelengths commonly used for laser ablation from a single laser head. While for many researchers, the performance of the 193 nm wavelength may be the draw to such a system; it is the flexibility of the system that makes the system attractive in many situations. The ability to use the high energies available at the 266 nm and 213 nm wavelengths allows the user to perform large ablations of a variety of materials. These larger craters yield more representative bulk sampling of heterogeneous samples and produce lower detection limits. Features
