Mass spectrometer: TIMS |
Our new thermal ionization mass spectrometer (TIMS) has been designed in collaboration with the Max Planck Instititute for Chemistry for the needs of geochemical researchers. The WiFi has the ability to analyze smaller samples with larger ratio in new detection modes more precisely than ever before. It is especially designed to achieve a 2 ppm accuracy for the Nd and Sr isotope ratios determination. The WiFi detector system is equipped with 11 detectors for simultaneous measurements of isotope ratios. Following the idea, that the accuracy mainly depends on the quality of the detector system immediately leads to a design in which oversized, static Faraday cups are combined with a variable mass dispersion of the analyzer. The instrument is controlled by a real-time VME-BUS computer system that allows the combination of a variety of analyzing methods.
Our machine is currently tested at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Mainz.
