Developed and designed in cooperation with Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH (Prof. U. Keller, A. Aschwanden, D. Lorenser) and the University of Ulm (Prof. P. Unger, E. Gerster) OPS-VECSEL Optically Pumped Semiconductor Vertical-External-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (OPS-VECSEL) allow a completely new way of thinking as far as performance and flexibility of semiconductor laser development are concerned. TOPTICA Photonics AG has therefore decided to make this technology available as an evaluation kit for academic or industrial research.
In collaboration with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH (Prof. U. Keller, A. Aschwanden, D. Lorenser) and the University of Ulm (Prof. P. Unger, E. Gerster), TOPTICA has designed this evaluation kit for both laser scientists who want to get a quick start in this emerging field and for semiconductor developers who want to have a test-platform for their new VECSEL-samples.
The evaluation kit consists of a convection-cooled module containing driving electronics, a 5 Watt laser diode for pumping, pump optics and the gain chip.
The electronics are microprocessor controlled with simple access provided manually as well as over a fully programmable RS232 interface, allowing temperature/power cycling and monitoring of all relevant parameters such as power, current and temperature.
