Description
Experimental Neurology, a Journal of Neuroscience Research, publishes original research in neuroscience with a particular emphasis on novel findings in neural development, regeneration, plasticity and transplantation. The journal has focused on research concerning basic mechanisms underlying neurological disorders.

Since Sid Gilman, University of Michigan, took over as Editor-in-Chief in 2003, Experimental Neurology has broadened and expanded dramatically into translational neuroscience, as planned (see editorial from Sid Gilman. The journal is now one of the premier journals covering the basic science underlying both neurologica and psychiatric disorders. New section editors came on board in 2003 and 2004 (Evan Snyder, Burnham Institute, for Development, Thomas Klockgether, University of Bonn, for Neurological Disorders, Isabella Heuser, Charite Berlin, for Psychiatric Disorders), and in 2005 Deniz Kirik, University of Lund, for Transplantation and Repair. The new feature of commentaries to significant articles was well received. The turnaround time to first decision is now often less than one month (average 6 weeks), articles are posted to Science Direct as articles in press within 2 months of acceptance. Medline / Pubmed now lists articles as soon as they appear on Science Direct.
