Birgit Daus holds a PhD degree in analytical chemistry from the University Halle Wittenberg, Germany. Since 1996, she is doing elemental species analysis in the laboratory of the UFZ- Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research at Leipzig, Germany. Dr. Daus is teaching trace and environmental analysis at the universities Leipzig and Freiberg. Her special scientific interest is the development of speciation techniques for metalloids (As, Sb) or metals in environmental matrices. She is developing analytical techniques (mainly HPLC-ICP-MS) to identify and quantify species with the aim to understand environmental processes in contaminated landscapes (e.g. mining effected areas) and to conclude mitigation measures.
