Analytical chemistry, with emphasis on the determination of trace metals by atomic spectrometric techniques such as atomic absorption spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Particular attention is given to hyphenated techniques, where hydride generation, electrothermal vaporization, liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis are combined with ICP-MS. Current research interests include methods of metal speciation in environmental and nutritional samples based on the combination of atomic spectrometry with separation methods such as ion exchange solid phase extraction cartridges (SPE) and thin film samplers (DGT).
