The Rio Symposium on Atomic Spectrometry has been held every two years in different countries of Central and South America since 1988. Its aim is to bring together experts from universities, official centers, laboratories and industry, to summarize the current progress in different areas of atomic spectrometry and its most recent applications in elemental analysis, speciation, metallomics, nanotechnology, sample preparation, etc.
The Rio Symposium is a unique opportunity for students and researchers to establish contact and promote valuable cooperation for their research and scientific careers.

The  Rio Symposium is held every 2 years and is usually attended by more than 300 participants from 20 countries. It is developed in five days that include the following activities: opening ceremony and conference, invited plenary lectures given by researchers of international prestige, exhibition of novel works under the modality of oral presentations and posters as well as technical seminars of different laboratory suppliers. All submitted works are evaluated and only those of the highest scientific quality are awarded by important publishers (e.g. Elsevier, The Royal Society of Chemistry and Springer). In addition, the works presented at the 15   RS will be included in a book of abstracts and could be published in special issues of international journals after an evaluation performed by recognized external reviewers.
