charge transfer reaction


Sometimes referred to as “charge exchange.” This is one of the ion–molecule reaction mechanisms that take place in a collision/reaction cell. It involves the transfer of a positive charge from the interfering ion to the reaction gas molecule, forming a neutral atom that is not seen by the mass analyzer. An example of this kind of reaction is
H2 + Ar+ = Ar + H2+
