Software: Analytical documentation |
This often leaves gaps in the provenance or custody trail of results. This can lead to time consuming searches for connections on different systems and in different data and file types to prove data has been generated correctly and so keep regulators and auditors satisfied. Such gaps occur for a number of reasons:
- once analysis starts measurement and capture of results take place in a range of systems from different vendors
- the data collected by instruments is often proprietary in nature and stored in different directories and file systems on workstations separate to the LIMS server
- the lack of flexibility of a particular laboratory sub system means that there is no natural or a limited common data entity or connection between the sub systems that are involved during the progression of the sample (or its aliquot)
- the LIMS itself has a limited range of entities that it can store in its data structure. For example can only cope with computer concentration value, not raw data values, cannot handle attached files
- changing the LIMS data structure to handle the wide range of specific entities is expensive and effects on going support and validation costs.
CSols LabCache design
CSols have been integrating instrument systems for years and have relied upon file and simple archives to provide a safe repository for data. However with the increasing desire to track information and to complete sample provenance, we have created our own flexible data structure or LabCache database.
LabCache makes use of the Microsoft SQL Server database and its power to easily scale up from workstations to enterprises. For applications like Links for LIMS a LabCache database is installed on the workstation. For Remote Sampler the database is shared by many devices on a shared workstation or server.
Labcache Data structure
LabCache™ uses a relational data structure to link all of the data collected from the source (instruments and Tablet PCs or PDAs running CSols applications).
In laboratory settings this means that a user can query LabCache for all instrumental or Tablet PC / PDA data associated with a batch or sample independently of the information transferred to LIMS.
