The Rotospec is a computer-controlled sequential spectrometer designed for work with an ICP or with a glow discharge lamp. The 0.5 m Czerny-Turner monochromator has a holographic grating with a constant of l/2000 mm and a width of 50 mm. The spectral range between 200 and 1000 nm is covered. However, a vacuum version with a spectral range of 150-1000 nm and a high-vacuum version for the range of 110-1000 nm are also available. The grating position is determined over special microprocessor-controlled positioning electronics. Off-line background correction is provided. The argon ICP offered is powered by a crystal-controlled 1.5 kW r.f.-generator operating at 27.12 MHz and provided with automatic adaption of impedance. The RSV glow discharge lamp for metallic samples and non-conductors can be directly flanged to the optical part of the spectrometer. It can be exchanged together with the optics as a whole-insert. The lamp is supplied with a microprocessor-controlled cleaning system. The samples are pressed against the lamp by a stamp. Sample diameters should be at least 20 mm and the burning spot diameters can be between 1 and 14 mm. Non-conductors can be analyzed after pulverization, mixing with copper powder and pressing the mixtures into pellets. For this work, a special press is offered. The spectrometer may be supplied with either, however, also with both sources. As computers an S-Bit system, (calculator: SORD M23, CPU: Z80A with 200 k-Byte RAM, graphic board, floppy-disc and Winchester), a l6-Bit system (calculator: PDP 11 +) and a 32-Bit system (calculator: Micro VAX Digital Equipment with 2 V24 RSV interfaces ROT0 for instrument control and data-acquisition respectively) are available. The software includes a series of analytical programmes such as automatic calibration, registration of the background near the spectral lines with the according background correction and automatic sampling for ICP-analyses
