The exciting new OptiMass 8000 ICP Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer (ICP-TOFMS) has redefined the state-of-the-art in elemental analysis . This ground-breaking product has revolutionized the traditional ICP-MS market due to the significant benefits offered by the simultaneous nature of the time-of-flight mass analyzer.
GBC's new bench top ICP-TOF-MS overcomes the major limitations associated with the scanning nature of available ICP-MS instrumentation. This ICP-MS incorporates an orthogonal acceleration time-of-flight mass spectrometer that has the advantages of high speed and simultaneous mass determination without any compromise in mass range, sensitivity or precision. Detection limits equivalent to those achievable with a quadrapole instrument can be achieved on all 260 masses within 10 seconds. This inherent speed allows higher sample throughput with the use of conventional sample introduction systems, typically 2 samples per minute.
The simultaneous nature of a time-of-flight mass spectrometer not only reduces routine analysis time without compromising the mass range or precision, but is also suitable for the analysis of transient signals. The time-of-flight mass spectrometer can analyze the entire mass range in less than 30ms.
This high speed data collection rate enables transient signals generated from, eg., single shot laser ablation, electro-thermal vaporisation or flow injection, to be sampled 30,000 times per second and 50 integrated full mass spectra to be displayed every second. This opens up a range of applications that previously have been hindered by the slow sequential nature of quadrapole or magnetic sector field mass spectrometers. This exciting new instrument offers:
- Simultaneous measurement of the entire elemental mass spectrum; display rate of 50 integrated full mass spectra per second
- High sample throughput with determination of the entire mass range
- Multi-element transient analysis; sampling rate of 30,000 full mass spectra per second
- Simultaneous internal standardization
- Simultaneous isotope ratios for all elements with better than 0.1 %RSD
GBC, known worldwide in the elemental analysis field with its successful range of AAS and ICP products, believes the time-of-flight technology has further strengthened its position in the analytical market. The ICP-TOF-MS compliments the company's current product range and expand it's capability to more readily meet the demands of modern laboratories.
