The Explorer FTMS is two high resolution mass spectrometers in one! The photograph above shows a ProMALDI vacuum system on the left side of the superconducting magnet and a QFT vacuum system on the right side. The two vacuum systems are independent and separate. Both have a complete set of pumps, a large Trapped Ion cell (6.35 cm x 15.8 cm), and FTMS electronics.
The vacuum systems roll easily in and out of the magnet for bakeouts and maintenance. The OMEGA 2XP Data System automatically activates either the MALDI or the ESI control electronics, depending upon which one is rolled into the magnet. It literally takes only a minute to switch between MALDI and ESI. IonSpec uses Pfeiffer turbomolecular pumps and/or CTI cryogenic pumps to acheive base pressures in the low 10(-10) Torr range. These pumps have a proven record of reliability, and service is available worldwide. The customer can select which pumps are best for their applications. The Explorer FTMS is now available with the MassTech AP-MALDI source.
