Eppendorf is a biotechnology company that develops, manufactures and distributes systems comprising instruments, consumables and reagents for use in laboratories worldwide. The company is focused on two business sectors:
Bio Tools, which includes tools such as pipettes, dispensers and centrifuges, and consumables such as test tubes and pipette tips
Molecular Technologies, which includes instruments and systems for cell manipulation, automatic devices for high-throughput screening (HTS), complete systems for DNA multiplication, nucleic acid purification kits and biochips.
A series of "Complementary Products" manufactured both by Eppendorf and other companies rounds off the product range.
This product program is directed at academic and commercial research facilities as well as industrial companies in the biotechnology sphere or in other branches that utilize biotechnology research methods. The regional emphasis is on North America, followed by Western Europe and Japan. Eppendorf was founded in 1945 with headquarters in Hamburg and today has more than 1,750 employees. The group owns subsidiaries in strategically important countries and is represented in all other markets by distribution partners.
In 2004 Eppendorf achieved revenues of almost 287 million EUR with operative earnings (EBIT) of 40.11 million EUR.
Eppendorf will selectively expand its successful market position on the dynamic biotechnology markets. In addition to organic growth, acquisitions will also be pursued with the objective of securing an increased range of biotechnological system solutions in addition to the extension of the technology and product portfolio.
