The Hong Kong Society of Mass Spectrometry (HKSMS) was established in 1998. The Society aims to serve as a forum for exchange of views about mass spectrometry, and to promote the understanding of mass spectrometry among professionals and the general public. By arranging seminars and meetings on mass spectrometry, the Society hopes not only to foster this rapidly expanding field of science within Hong Kong, but also to serve as a link to societies in other countries and the Mainland which share the same interest. HKSMS is a non-profit making Society run by the Society's Council on a voluntary basis. The Council consists of the President, the Vice-President, the Honorary Secretary, the Treasurer, and four other ordinary members elected at the Annual General Meeting. In addition, a maximum of two student members may be co-opted into the Council. Existing Society members comprise academics or professionals from governmental institutions, universities and industry (full members), full-time students in academic institutions (student members), corporate members and honorary members.
