The Norwegian Society for Mass Spectrometry (NSMS) was founded on the 6th of April 1973 in Oslo. The initiative to form The Norwegian Society for Mass Spectrometry was taken by:
Olav H.J. Christie, Georg Hvistendahl, Egil Jellum, Einar Solheim and Jon Elling Pettersen (who later changed his name to Jon Elling Wist). The latter was the first chairman. In the beginning there was annual meetings, with some lectures.
