Mission/Origin
The Protein Society is the leading international society devoted to furthering research and development in protein science. The purpose of the Society is to provide national and international forums to facilitate communication, cooperation and collaboration with respect to all aspects of the study of proteins. The Protein Society is a nonprofit scientific and educational organization that was founded in 1986 to consolidate the knowledge and experience of a global community of protein scientists and to explore all aspects of the building blocks of life: protein molecules. The Protein Society is a member of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), a coalition of 21 independent societies that plays an active role in lobbying for the interests of biomedical scientists.
Membership
The Protein Society members represent: universities, foundations, institutes and corporations to provide leadership in this broad field of research. The Society and its members are making a strong impact on the advancements of protein science. The Protein Society membership is open to scholars and researchers interested in the analysis, chemistry, folding, structure, function, and regulation of proteins. Members have an opportunity to actively participate in the emerging fields of protein science including proteomics, bioinformatics, structural biology, and computational biology as they pertain to proteins at the molecular and cellular level.
