Italy: Interdepartmental Research Center “Role of Metal Ions in Biomedical Sciences - BIOMÉTION”
The Centro Interdipartimentale di Ricerca “Ruolo degli Ioni Metallici nelle Scienze Biomediche” (BIOMÉTION) is an interdepartmental scientific network which gathers both prominent and promising scientists belonging to the University of Padova whose research work is strictly related to the elucidation of the role of metal ions in biological systems.
The Center aims at promoting and carrying out research activities focusing on the in-depth study of the principles of bioinorganic chemistry, as well as the investigation of the properties of metal-containing biomolecules. In addition, it intends to promote new research lines by exploiting the complimentary, yet diverse, competences of the members, in order to both infer issues related to the role of metal ions in biological systems and identify innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches involving selected metal species.
The Center supports inter- and multidisciplinary projects encompassing aspects of chemistry, pharmacology, biology, medicine and food science, all devoted to the elucidation of bioinorganic processes.
Accordingly, the Center:
- promotes, supports and coordinates the research activity between complimentary, yet diverse, scientific disciplines;
- promotes communication and networking strategies among scientists with different scientific background so as to favor well-established long-term fruitful collaborations in the field;
- acquires and manages the financial resources to be used to achieve the above mentioned objectives.
