Description
This project aims to identify the major processes responsible for the mercury escape from hotspot areas, including the methylation and demethylation, to quantify Hg fluxes between sediment, water and air, and to elaborate a conceptual model of the Hg regional cycle. To reach these objectives field measurements of Hg and monomethylmercury in sediments, pore waters, water column, soil and atmosphere will be performed. Experiments will be conducted in laboratory and in field to better comprehend the main processes and mechanisms.
