Description
|
Sampling and initial treatment was carried out by the Wageningen Agricultural University (WEPAL). The channel sediment originates from two different sampling sites, coded C and D. Sediments from the two sites were combined to produce the material for BCR-320R. Site D is situated at a dead end of the Side Canal D of the North Sea Canal which connects Amsterdam (NL) with the North Sea. The sediment was sampled at a depth of 4.5 m. Site C is situated 500 m from the mouth of the Canal, the sediment was sampled at a depth of 2.0 m. Both materials were dried at 40 °C, crushed and sieved to < 2 mm and sent to IRMM. There, 105 kg of C and 106 kg of D were jet milled to obtain 186 kg of powder with a particle size < 90 ìm. The remainder was lost in the milling process. Homogenisation and sampling was carried out in a cone mixer with a semi-automatic filling device. 40 g powder were filled in amber 100 ml glass bottles with polyethylene inserts and plastic screw caps. 4404 units were produced. The water content was determined to be 2.09 ± 0.06 % (n = 20) by volumetric Karl Fischer titration. The particle size analysis using a Sympatec particle size analyser with a Helos measuring device showed a top particle size of 90 ìm [5]. keywords: Environmental material, Soil/Sediment, Trace elements, Heavy metals
