This conference series began in Sweden in 1990, and has become the preeminent international forum for advances in the understanding of environmental mercury pollution. In August 2006, at the 8th ICMGP in Madison, Wisconsin, 1150 mercury experts endorsed a declaration highlighting the need for improved communication between scientists, regulators, industry, and the public.

The 10th ICMGP will include representation from all of these groups, and will integrate best available understanding of the sources, transport, fate, effects, and remediation of mercury in the environment. Accordingly, the theme of the ICMGP 2011 meeting is “Air, Land, Sea, and Me” and will explore the linkages between natural and anthropogenic mercury sources, exposure of humans and wildlife, and how changes in biogeochemical processes resulting from climate change and other human stressors are likely to affect the success of global strategies attempting to reduce mercury exposure.
