Merbromin

Merbromin (marketed as Mercurochrome, Merbromine, Sodium mercurescein, Asceptichrome, Supercrome and Cinfacromin) is an organomercuric disodium salt compound and a fluorescein. Merbromin's best-known use is as a topical antiseptic for minor cuts and scrapes; however, along with Merthiolate, it has been ruled ineffective by the FDA, and is no longer approved in the US but still available in many other countries.
Mol. wt.: 750.70; freely soluble in water, giving a carmine-red solution.
