End of Life Vehicles (ELV) Directive (2000/53/EC)
Directive 2000/53/EC is meant to minimize the impact of the end of life of vehicles on environment by restricting the use of certain heavy metals in new vehicles from 1 July 2003. The objective is to ensure that 85% of an end of life vehicle by weight will be recycled by the year 2006, increasing to 95% by the year 2015 with additional de-pollution tasks being progressively introduced.
