The Plasmakon S 15 is a computer-controlled sequential ICP-instrument of compact size. A crystal-controlled h.f.-generator with a maximum output power of 1.5 kW is used. The output power is stabilized to +- 0.1% and the tuning is fully automated. The system is provided with a demountable torch. A Meinhard nebulizer as well as a Babington nebulizer specially constructed for work with solutions containing hydrofluoric acid are available. The 0.64-m Czemy-Turner monochromator has a holographic grating (grating constant: l/2400 mm, dimensions: 80 mm x 110 mm). Wavelengths between 180 and 800 nm may be selected. For work at wavelengths below 190 nm, the instrument is purged with argon or nitrogen. Slit widths are adjustable. The grating is driven by a stepping motor (10 000 steps/turn). The monochromator is thermostatted at 37°C +- 0.l°C. An automatic switching between two photomultipliers of which one has optimum sensitivity at u.v.-wavelengths and the other in the visible region, is optionally available. The illumination makes use of a lens system. The Kontron PSI Y 908 microcomputer controls the spectrometer, acquires the signals and calculates the analysis results. It bases on a Z 80 A microprocessor and has 256 k-Byte RAM working capacity and 64 k-Byte for video display. A dual floppy-disc drive and a graphics terminal (resolution: 256 x 512 pixels) are provided. A hard disc with 10.9 M-Byte memory is optionally available. The standard software package includes programmes for a quantitative determination of up to 40 elements (background and interference correction, calibration and statistics) as well as for qualitative and semiquantitative analyses.
