An academic society dedicated to the comprehensive understanding of man–environment–health communications. The Japanese Society for Hygiene is an association of researchers, scholars and professionals dedicated to the promotion and development of hygiene / social medicine. The society was founded in 1902, making it one of the oldest academic societies in medicine in Japan. The scope of the society’s activities covers all the important fields of social medicine, emphasizing in particular:
- basic research and risk management to combat infectious diseases
- health research on the biological effects of, and risk prevention of, environmental toxicants; and
- basic research for prevention of lifestyle-related ill-health effects.
The society has recently established 22 allied research project teams in cooperation with other related academic and professional societies.
Through its research, the society facilitates comprehensive strategies and solutions in environmental / occupational health and social / preventive medicine.
