HSE: MDHS41/2 Arsenic and inorganic compounds of arsenic (except arsine) in air
Laboratory method using continuous flow or flow injection analysis hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry
Note 1: This method updates and replaces MDHS 41.1
The principal change is that use of continuous flow and flow injection analysis hydride generation systems is now described rather than use of a discrete batch hydride generation system, a technique which has now been largely superseded. Other changes which have been made include (i) use of cellulose ester membrane filters and sodium carbonate-impregnated back-up paper pads
rather than cellulose ester membrane filters or sodium hydroxide-impregnated paper filters, and (ii) sample dissolution using nitric acid, sulphuric acid and hydrogen peroxide rather than aqua regia. The procedures given in this method can easily be adapted by laboratories still using discrete batch hydride generation.
