Various types of bulbs and tubes (lamps) contain mercury in its elemental form (Hgo).  Mercury is corrosive and present in sufficient quantities to render the lamps toxic at the end of their life.  As such, they attract a Class 8 and 2, Hazard Rating 1 classification in terms of the official waste classification system.
