Description
|
The Immobilized Liquid Extraction (ILE) cap (patent pending) is a regular bottle or vial cap with a siloxane-elastomer coated septum. ILE caps utilize their immobilized elastomer coating to extract organic compounds from complex aqueous matrices such as waste water, urine, or serum while ignoring interferants. ILE caps have been designed to utilize beneficial aspects of other sample preparation procedures while avoiding their numerous shortcomings. The ILE cap extraction procedure consists of placing an ILE cap on a bottle or vial containing an aqueous sample. The vessel is then agitated such that the sample is directly exposed to the immobilized elastomer on the cap's septum. Agitation can be performed by a wrist-shaker, a sonicator, or a number of other suitable devices. Upon completion of the extraction, the analyte-laden cap is removed from the first vessel and placed on a vial containing a small amount of solvent, into which the analyte(s) are "back-extracted," thus completing the sample preparation process.
